We request that parents come to gather their child from Part 2 as soon as they are able. The Roxbury afterschool will be cancelled and all children will be dropped off at their bus stops for home. There will be no Roxbury late bus running this afternoon. All children who take the late bus will be on their regular afterschool bus. All co-curricular activities at MSMS and MHS are cancelled.”

How the Decision is Made

MRPS understands that our decision to delay or close schools has a big impact on families. Recognizing this and that the safety of our students is our top priority, MRPS makes delay or closure decisions due to weather based on the following:

  • Information on road conditions from the Montpelier and Roxbury/Northfield road crews

  • The amount of snow/ice accumulated

  • Weather forecast - is precipitation expected to continue?

  • Building conditions - do we have electricity and heat?

  • Temperature and wind chill

  • Consultation with other local superintendents

Who makes the decision?

The decision to delay or close schools is the responsibility of Superintendent Libby Bonesteel, based on the above factors and in consultation with Facilities Director Andrew LaRosa, road crews, and our contracted bus company.

How is the public notified?

MRPS utilizes an automated emergency notification system through PowerSchool which will contact the primary and secondary phone numbers provided by families at the time of registration or as submitted at the start of the school year. The message will also be shared via the district’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, on this webpage, and will be shared with local TV and radio.

* If you need to update your contact information, please sign in to your PowerSchool account.

When is the decision made?

Ideally, the decision to delay or close school can be made the evening beforehand by 8 p.m. If that is not possible, and a decision must be made in the morning, it should be made by 6:00 a.m. and communicated no later than 6:30 a.m.

If you do not feel as though it is safe for your child to attend school, we trust that you will make the best decision for your child.
